Still waiting on a repair
Haven't heard from the repair shop? How to find out if it's ready
Check for a text, an email, or a status link from the shop first, since many send one when the work is done. If there's nothing, call with your ticket or work order number and ask three things: is it done, if not what is it waiting on, and when will it be ready. "Waiting on a part" and "waiting on your approval" need very different next steps.
If you'd rather not make the call, Callio can phone the shop with your ticket number, ask where the job stands, and bring back anything that needs your decision. See how it compares
Every way to check, and where each one breaks
-
The shop's text, email, or status page
- Works when
- Dealers and larger repair chains often send updates, or have a page where your ticket number shows the status.
- Falls short
- Updates tend to arrive at the start and the end. The middle, where the delay is, stays quiet.
-
Wait for them to call
- Works when
- Fine when there's no rush.
- Falls short
- A job waiting on your approval can sit untouched until someone remembers to call you.
-
Call the shop yourself
- Works when
- The person at the counter can look up your ticket and ask the technician.
- Falls short
- Shops are busiest at drop-off and pickup times, and you may be put on hold while they check.
-
Have Callio make the call
- Works when
- Callio calls the shop, gives your ticket number when they ask for it, asks whether it's ready, what it's waiting on, and when it will be done, then sends back the answer and the full transcript.
- Falls short
- Calls to businesses require Callio Premium. It won't approve extra work or new charges; if the shop needs a decision, Callio brings the question back to you. Calls are in English, to US shops on Google Maps.
Why you haven't heard
Most repair delays are one of four things: the job is waiting on a part, it's waiting on your approval for something the technician found, it's in a queue behind other jobs, or it's done and nobody has called yet. Only the shop can tell you which, and each has a different fix. A part usually has an expected date. An approval needs your yes or no. A finished repair needs a pickup time, and often payment.
What to have, and what to ask
Whether you call or Callio does, have the ticket ready and ask past "is it done?"
- Have your ticket, work order, or claim number, and the name the job is under.
- Ask whether it's finished. If not, ask what it's waiting on: a part, your approval, or its turn.
- Ask for a ready date, and whether that date depends on anything.
- Ask whether the final price still matches the estimate.
- Ask about pickup: the hours, what to bring, and how you can pay.
What Callio will and won't do on a repair call
Callio asks about your job and reports what the shop said. It doesn't agree to anything you didn't ask for, so if the shop needs approval for extra work or a new price, that question comes back to you in the result. Include the ticket number and the name the job is under in your request, and Callio gives them when the shop asks. Some shops only discuss a job with the person it's under, so a job under someone else's name may get a polite no.
Questions
Repair status, answered
How long should I wait before calling about a repair?
Call when the date you were given has passed, or when it's been a few days with no update on a job that was supposed to be quick. If it's waiting on your approval, every day you don't call is a day nothing happens.
What information do I need to check on a repair?
The ticket, work order, or claim number, and the name the job is under. The make and model helps if you don't have a number.
Can Callio approve the repair or extra charges for me?
No. Callio doesn't agree to anything outside the request you approved. If the shop needs a decision, the result tells you what they're asking so you can answer them.
Does it work for any kind of repair shop?
US repair businesses on Google Maps where a person answers: auto shops, phone and computer repair, shoe, watch, and bike repair, tailors and alterations. Some shops only share job details with the person the job is under. Numbers that only reach a support hotline or ask for an account number aren't calls Callio makes.
Is Callio free?
You can try a free practice call to your own phone. Calls to businesses need Callio Premium, a subscription billed through the App Store or Google Play, with unlimited calls to businesses.
