If you'd rather not call

You don't want to make this phone call yourself. Is there another way?

Yes. For a call to a business, you can ask someone you trust, contact the business in writing if it answers messages, use a relay service if you're Deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired, or have an AI calling app like Callio place the call and send you the answer in writing. Which one fits depends on who you're calling, how soon you need the answer, and whether you want to hear the call at all.

With Callio, you type what you need, approve what it will ask, and read the business's answer when the call ends. You never pick up the phone. See how it compares

Every way to get the call made, and where each one breaks

None of them is wrong. Each fits a different situation.

  1. Ask a friend or family member

    Works when
Someone you trust, who knows what you need, and who doesn't mind.
    Falls short
It costs a favor every time, and it only works when they're free during business hours.
  2. Email, text, or message the business

    Works when
No voice needed, and the answer is in writing.
    Falls short
Many small businesses reply slowly or not at all, and some only take bookings by phone.
  3. A relay service

    Works when
Free in the US for people who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or speech-impaired, including by dialing 711. A human operator relays the conversation live.
    Falls short
You still hold the conversation in real time, and some businesses hang up on relay calls they don't recognize.
  4. A human virtual assistant

    Works when
Handles almost any call, including personal ones.
    Falls short
Usually billed by the hour or by the month, and you have to hand over the details to a stranger.
  5. Have Callio make the call

    Works when
For calls to US businesses on Google Maps. Type what you need, approve what Callio will ask, and read the answer and the full transcript when the call ends. Calls go out from Callio's own number, so the business never sees yours as caller ID.
    Falls short
Calls to businesses require Callio Premium. It calls businesses only, not friends or family, and not support hotlines, government lines, or account-number systems. Calls are in English.

Who asks this, and why it's reasonable

People who freeze on the phone. People whose job means they're never free between nine and five. People who are Deaf, hard of hearing, or have a speech disability. People whose English is easier to write than to speak. And people calling for someone else, like a parent or a partner. The call still needs to happen. It doesn't have to be made by you.

Before anyone makes the call for you

Whoever makes it, writing this down first is what makes it go right.

  • The business, and the outcome you want: a booking, an answer, a cancellation.
  • The details they'll ask for: dates, times, names, numbers, sizes.
  • What's acceptable if the first choice isn't: another time, another item, a price limit.
  • What they shouldn't agree to on your behalf.
  • How you want the answer: a quick yes or no, or the whole conversation.

What Callio is for

Callio makes outgoing calls to US businesses you pick on Google Maps. It says it's an AI when asked, and up front on booking calls, and it takes instructions only from your request, never from the other side. It doesn't call personal contacts, answer your phone, or call numbers that never reach a person at the business.

Questions

Having the call made for you, answered

Is there an app that makes phone calls for you?

Yes. Callio calls US businesses on Google Maps for you from its own number: you type what you need, it places the call, and you read the answer and the full transcript afterwards.

Can I listen in or take over the call?

No. There's no live audio on your side. Callio handles the whole call and sends the summary and transcript when it ends.

Can it call a person, not a business?

No. Callio only calls businesses on Google Maps. For calls to friends or family, a relay service or someone you trust is the right route.

Can I write my request in another language?

You can type in English, Spanish, or Chinese. Callio calls in English and sends the answer back in your app's language.

Is Callio free?

You can try a free practice call to your own phone. Calls to businesses need Callio Premium, a subscription billed through the App Store or Google Play, with unlimited calls to businesses.
